To create a Google Business Profile follow these steps to ensure your firm appears accurately in local searches. The first three steps are best done by the business owner. Afterwards, if you need support in this area, you should grant access to our dedicated Google email address, so that we can help you.
1. Get Started
- Sign In: Go to Google Business Profile and sign in with the Google account you want to manage the firm’s listing. It is recommended to use a dedicated business email rather than a personal one. (Make sure you will continue to have access to that email address for future updates!)
- Search for the Firm: Type variations on your business name to see if a profile already exists.
- If it exists: Select it and click “Claim this business”.
- If it does not exist: Select “Create a business with this name”.
2. Enter Core Business Details
- Business Category: Choose a specific primary category like “Employment attorney” or “Law firm”. You can add up to nine secondary categories later to cover other areas.
- Location: Select “Yes” for a physical location. Enter the address exactly as it appears on your website.
- Service Area: If the firm serves clients throughout Massachusetts and nationally, list these as service areas.
- Contact Info: Provide the phone number and the website URL.
3. Verification
Google must verify your business before it goes live. You will typically be offered one of these methods:
- Postcard: Google mails a code to your Boston office, usually arriving in 5–7 business days.
- Phone/Email: Some businesses may qualify for instant verification via a code sent to a business phone or email.
- Video: You may be asked to record a short video showing your office signage, workspace, and proof of management.
4. Complete and Optimize
Once verified, use the Google Business Profile Manager to:
- Add Photos: Upload high-quality images of the team, your office interior, and the firm’s logo to build trust. We’re happy to help prep the images for this.
- Write a Description: Craft a brief summary (up to 750 characters) detailing your expertise.
- Set Hours: List accurate operating hours to ensure potential clients know when you are available for consultation.
- Manage Reviews: Keep an eye on this! Start out by getting your friendlier clients to create a review for you. We can give you a special link to add to your email signature or on your website, as well.
