Over the past few years, the Boston waterfront has changed dramatically. Over eighteen years ago, when BKJ Productions headquarters were located at the Boston Design Center, the area was an urban wasteland of barren parking lots and suspicious mountains of snow.
So when the civic leaders of the area decided to re-brand the neighborhood, we were thrilled to be tapped to help produce the flagship portal website, BostonsNewWaterfront.com. As a part of the Adams Design team, we developed a comprehensive management system to allow up-to-the-minute collaborative updates by the graphic designers, copywriters and other content creators. Over 600 images are used at the website, which covers over 50 pages.
We used our proprietary Chamber Directory plugin to manage a database of several hundred businesses. On the home page, there are a few exploratory graphics that move in interesting ways as you mouse over the grid. We opted to use Vimeo as the delivery system for the seven videos that play in an overlay. Throughout the site, an interesting Kwick-Slider effect teases and reveals tidbits of information about the area.
